A Los Angeles-based dog rescue organization called Hope for Paws received an urgent call one night. The caller said that a pregnant pit bull wandered into their yard. She started giving birth, but the dog was wailing throughout the process, and it seemed she was in great pain.
The property owners were worried that something wrong might happen. The dog and her pups might not survive the night. Not wanting to waste any time, the group quickly sent a three-person team to rescue the pooch and her newborn litter.
Cars
As soon as the team arrived, the house owner met them and showed them where the dog was. But when the new mom saw them, she quickly ran off. They chased the adult pooch in the yard with flashlights cutting through the darkness. Thankfully, they have already closed off all possible exits.
The adult pit bull was wary of the strangers at first. But when she realized they were there to save her and her litter, she relaxed a bit. The rescuers then gathered her five puppies, but sadly, one of them died.
On the way to a vet, they named the mama dog Lexus, and her four surviving babies were named Beemer, Mercedes, Prius, and Cooper.
Bottle cap
After getting cleaned up and fed by the medical team, the family settled in for a much-deserved rest. Lexus started feeding her puppies, and everything seemed to be going well. But then, the vets noticed that the adult pit bull would sometimes wince in pain when she was in a certain position. They decided to examine her more.
The vets soon discovered that Lexus had a large metal bottle cap in her stomach. Its sharp edges must be causing her pain.
After discussing their options, the medical team decided not to do surgery on her. She is still nursing her puppies. Instead, they induced vomiting to get the foreign object out of her stomach. The next day, they were all taken to a foster home. They will stay there until they are all found a good home.
