Living with autism is challenging. Autism can force a person to shut down from the entire world, which could prevent them from functioning normally in society.
Ruth, a 21-year-old woman, was exposed to an entirely new world when she met Ryder, her therapy dog.
Before she met Ryder, Ruth was lost and hardly communicated with others. Ruth and her mother decided to give service dogs a try because this has helped many children and adults with autism. Even though Ruth was no longer a child, they still had a go at it. Then, she was paired with Ryder.
Ruth continued to ask God to send her someone who could make her life simpler. She had no idea that Ryder was the person sent to help her. Ruth and her mother were shocked by Ryder’s effectiveness. Ruth has trouble sleeping on a regular basis, but with Ryder by her, she sleeps like a dog.
Then her mother observed that Ruth began to interact with others. She was stunned by how rapidly Ryder altered Ruth’s personality. Ruth normally has uneasiness in crowded situations, but Ryder’s presence alleviates her fear. Ruth would just obey Ryder’s instructions, as he was her best buddy.
Before Ryder entered their lives, Ruth typically just went out with her mother. Now she can leave on her own to do grocery shopping at the supermarket, with Ryder’s support, of course. She became so independent as a result of her relationship with Ryder that she even moved into her own apartment.
One time, Ryder even saved her life. Due to a head injury, she fell to the floor. Ryder took her cell phone and carried it to her in order to call for help. Ruth emphasized that Ryder is not just her service dog and her greatest companion, but also her soulmate.
