Tammy Stevens is an avid horseback rider that loves nothing more than taking her horse Bo out for a trot. And most of the time, her two dogs, Wilson and Maddie, tag along with them.
One day, while taking a ride through the Molalla River Recreation Area in Oregon, she came across a distraught lady talking frantically with some men. By her side was her four-year-old granddaughter.
Tammy stopped to see if she could help.
Lost toddler
Tammy learned that the woman’s two-year-old granddaughter, Iris, got lost in the woods while they were walking the trail. The little toddler was very frisky and loved to explore. That particular day, she ran ahead, and they didn’t see where she went.
The trail branched out to multiple paths, and she didn’t know where to start looking. She started shouting, but she didn’t hear anyone respond. As she had no phone, she flagged down the first people that she saw, a group of loggers passing by. These men called 911.
Wilson to the rescue
Not wanting to wait for the authorities to arrive, Tammy decided to search for Iris immediately. Following her gut, she and her animals wandered the woods. They eventually got lucky and found the toddler.
They first heard the child crying. Tammy didn’t know where she was, so she told Wilson to go look for the child. Without hesitation, the dog quickly leaped into action. Shortly after, the dog started barking, calling out to Tammy. The little girl was on a steep incline.
Slowly, Tammy climbed to where Iris was. When she arrived, she saw that Wilson had her paw on the girl’s leg, trying to comfort the crying child. Tammy carried the little girl down the incline and hiked back to where the grandma was. She was so grateful to see her granddaughter was safe.
Thanks to a concerned lady and her animals, the girl didn’t have to wait so long to get rescued.
