It can be quite an emotional experience when a pet goes missing. And the Jones family from Nebraska knows exactly how that feels. For approximately three weeks, Bella, their dog, went missing without a microchip or tags on. Thus, the chances of the dog returning home seemed low. Despite that, the family continued searching.
And then, the Jones family spotted their missing dog at the animal shelter, Nebraska Humane Society. However, the humane society informed them that someone else had already filled out the adoption papers for Bella. Rebecca Jones, Bella’s beloved fur mom, pleaded to have her. Unfortunately, the situation was no longer that simple legally.
Nebraska has a rule that the humane society already owns a found pet after 72 hours. Thus, when the missing dog arrived at the humane society and stayed there for more than three days without anyone claiming her, they were required to put Bella up for adoption.
Jones was devastated; however, legally, the humane society could not do anything at that time — nothing without the permission of the new adopters.
Unfortunately, there was some miscommunication in this situation. However, the shelter still wanted to do something for Bella and her family and get them reunited. Thus, they contacted the dog’s new adopters and explained the situation.
Fortunately, the new adopters were very considerate of the situation. Although they had already fallen in love with the charming pooch, they still decided to do the right thing: return her to her original family. The adopters then expressed their interest in adopting another dog instead.
Learning about such a situation seems frustrating. However, the important thing is that Bella has already returned home with her family. It has been quite stressful losing a loved one. But thankfully, the adopters understood the situation and gave way to Bella’s family.
