A senior citizen was engaged in housework when she heard her dog barking incessantly by the door. She opened the door to see what the dog was barking about. She felt curious and she soon discovered a brown dog in her yard. It was a stray, but it was the dog’s condition that truly troubled her.
The dog was covered with wounds. Initially, it appeared that he had a severe skin infection. However, upon closer inspection, she noticed he had been burned. Regarding how and why, she was clueless.
The poor dog was taken by the woman to the nearest animal clinic, where the veterinarian gave salve and pills. At home, she faithfully provided the medications, but observed no significant improvement in the dog’s condition. She wanted him to recover as quickly as possible, so she decided to seek additional assistance.
With the assistance of an animal care and rescue organization, the woman was able to transport the dog she named Soondol to the city’s veterinary hospital. She stayed positive and awaited his recovery with patience. She knew he would overcome this.
In the meantime, the rescuers collaborated with the authorities to determine what happened to Soondol. They initially believed he had survived a house fire, but there was no evidence of smoke in his lungs. And after consulting with a fire investigator, they determined that the poor dog was intentionally burned.
The woman, the rescuers, the veterinarian, the police, and even Soondol’s concerned neighbors wanted for him to receive justice. They collaborated, but found no leads at all. There were no surveillance cameras or bystanders who could have provided information about what happened.
The dog spent time in the hospital before returning home with the woman. Due to the severity of his burns, the veterinarians predicted he would never be able to walk again.
Three months later, though, his paw pads reformed and he regained the strength to not only walk but even sprint.
People could not believe that Soondol was the same dog three months earlier. Even his veterinarian stated that his recuperation was extraordinary. He did not merely survive – he flourished.
