Malcolm was surrendered to a shelter because he was born with hydrocephalus and was considered undesirable. Nikki Carvey, the founder of the nonprofit organization called Road Dogs and Rescue, took him in to get him ready for adoption. She had always felt drawn to puppies with hydrocephalus, so she took the initiative to house train him.
At first, he was shy towards the other dogs. Then his bossy personality came out. He was the smallest dog in the house, but he was very assertive. He had appointed himself as the guardian of the doors and made the decisions about who he would like to invite inside.
Malcolm was very vocal. He would always voice out his opinions about anything and everything. Once he got going, he would not shut up until he had said all he wanted to say.
Over the next few weeks, Malcolm’s condition did not progress. If it weren’t for the slight enlargement of his head, one would not guess that he had a condition. He acted like any other normal puppy, so Nikki felt that he was ready for adoption.
They got an application from a couple named Vanessa and Charlie. They came over with their daughter Katie June to meet Malcolm and make his adoption official. They hit it off right away.
The family already had three French Bulldogs named Sweetie Belle, Ruby Mae, and Sherman. They introduced each of them to Malcolm, and he immediately started playing with Sherman. They became the best of friends. Malcolm treated Ruby Mae like a mother, and he constantly engaged with Sweetie Belle.
Malcolm was sensitive and loving. He had an exciting personality, and there was not a boring day with him. Everybody absolutely loved him.
Adopting Malcolm had been a very rewarding experience for their family. They were ready to face whatever challenge would come in the future. They also looked forward to having loving and wonderful memories with him.
