When residents of a tiny village in Greece saw that a stray dog had collapsed next to a garbage can, they quickly took action. They knew they had to help, but had no idea how to do so properly.
What they did instead was they took a photo of the dog and shared it on social media. They hoped the appropriate person would notice it and come to help.
Eventually, a person who knew Ermionni Giannakou, a rescuer from Karditsa, shared the photo with her and asked if she could assist.
Ermionni, the founder and chief rescuer of DAR Animal Rescue, volunteered without any hesitation. She responded immediately with an affirmative answer and wasted no time. Once she got the dog’s location, she jumped in her car and sped to get there.
It took seven hours between the posting of the photo and Ermionni learning about the dog’s plight. When she arrived at the scene and did not find the animal, she feared the worst had already occurred. She was uncertain, but she wished that someone may have already saved him.
However, she also thought that maybe the dog gathered enough strength to move to a safer location. But there are many possible scenarios, and Ermionni was really unsure. She could only hope for the best.
Even though it was possible she would never find the dog, the rescuer continued to do her work and ask around. A compassionate woman soon informed her that the puppy was in a secure location. Apparently, while the rain came, she led him to an old warehouse so he wouldn’t get soaked.
After praising the woman for her kind deed, Ermionni got to the puppy, who she eventually called Casper. She then loaded him into her vehicle and rushed him to the emergency animal clinic and hoped it wasn’t too late.
Casper was subjected to a thorough medical examination. Additionally, he was screened for the fatal diseases Parvovirus and Canine Distemper. The tests were negative, and there was only one explanation for his illness and weakness. He went without food for a very long time.
It didn’t take him that long to fully regain his strength, which is a blessing. Casper returned to his foster home after receiving medical clearance, where he continued to receive care. Eventually, he recovered and began a fresh life.
