Peppermint was recently rescued as a stray dog, and she was discovered in poor health. She was also found with a rope around her leg.
The workers of the rescue group could see that she was in pain and wanted to get her checked. They quickly transported her to an animal hospital for evaluation, where Dr. Jeff checked the damaged area. He observed that a portion of Peppermint’s thigh bone was enlarged and hard.
This could indicate an older fracture. With dense and stiff scar tissue, it would be impossible to access the bone. The idea is to put a pin on all the broken parts and put them back together.
Amputation of the leg would be the final option. Peppermint was anesthetized before the surgery. In the clinic, this is a frequent method when treating fractures. The procedure is designed to avoid causing the dog any additional pain. This also assists the veterinary technician in conducting important testing.
Dr. Jeff worked on Peppermint’s operation and drilled the pins into her bones. Only an x-ray could detect if the pins are pinned appropriately. When they took another x-ray, the pegs did not get through to all the bones.
Unfortunately, they needed to open Peppermint’s sutures again to rectify it. The whole surgery took three hours. After those arduous hours, Peppermint was finally recuperating and doing so well.
Thankfully, Peppermint was going to be adopted. They were willing to wait for Peppermint’s recovery.
Peppermint’s procedure was done during the Christmas season. It looks like Peppermint is getting all the appropriate Christmas presents. She receives both a leg correction and a family. She is deserving of all of it.
Peppermint was such a good dog, even with three hours of surgery. She never once complained. She deserves all that she got this season. It definitely is a season to be merry.
