Hope For Paws Animal Rescue received an urgent call concerning three homeless pups by the bushes in a highway barrier. It was reported that one of the dogs might have been pregnant, but when the rescue team arrived, they found that the mother had already given birth to her beautiful litter of puppies. A protective parent can be dangerous. We needed the whole team to make this rescue appear effortless.
All three dogs guarded the litter and protected the newborn babies. The dogs were nervous and barked at the rescue team approaching their way. The team was careful as they know how protective a mom is to her new puppies, and it can be hazardous and challenging to rescue the bunch.
One of the rescue members hopped over the fence from where the dogs were staying. The dogs barked frantically as if it were their territory. The rest of the rescue crew was outside the wall, giving dog food to the bigger dogs to keep them busy. The other member played a crying baby puppy sound so that the mother would lead him to the litter of pups.
The mama dog ran towards very dense vegetation and pretended to guard the location where no puppies could be found. Dogs usually do this to trick people so they cannot see their litter of pups. The rescuer kept looking, but no puppies could be spotted anywhere. Finally, after patiently searching, the rescuer found the puppy, far away from the fake location the mama pup had led him to.
The team needed more equipment, like a trap and a blanket. They called another team member to bring them the things they needed to rescue the puppies and the three big dogs. While they were waiting for the things they needed, they played with the dogs to gain their trust; the big Rottweiler had his belly rubbed.
The rescue was difficult; the dogs were by a dense vegetation den nearing the freeway. The dogs may escape, run straight to the road, and get hit by moving cars, so the team needed a good plan to attempt the rescue. The barking grew louder when the mama dog knew the humans were coming for her and the babies. She was already nursing her young when the rescue team approached her.
Luckily, Mama Dog had an earlier experience with one of them and was not hesitant to receive the cheese dog offered her. One had to lie down the bushes and use her body to balance the cage as they were positioned on a slope. The team provided her with another cheeseburger and then got the leash around her neck.
They took the babies out one by one, allowing the mama dog to sniff each one of them as they took them out to assure her that her puppies were in safe hands. The mama dog left the den when she realized that her puppies were being taken away, but she seemed to know they were getting help.
A few more babies from the litter were left inside the den when one rescue team spotted the Rottweiler out on the freeway. One of them got the leash and rushed to get the dog. Luckily, they quickly secured the dog and took the babies out individually. Mama dog was patiently waiting for all her puppies to be saved.
After confirming that no more puppies were in the den, they all hurried off the road. The Labrador and the Rottweiler were already leashed except for the Pit Bull, which was nowhere in sight. The dogs were supposed to be taken to the vehicle when the Pit Bull suddenly appeared barking. The Pittie seemed nervous after seeing his friends captured.
The Pit Bull was running around and was challenging to catch. The Pittie disappeared, so they took the rest of the dogs to the vehicle to settle down, as the babies were also getting hungry. The Socal Labrador Retriever Rescue offered to foster the mama dog, Amazon, and her babies.
The Rottweiler was released back to where they were found because the rescue team did not completely break the pack. They did not want the Pit Bull to disappear.
Amazon, on the other hand, immediately felt right at home. She’s a clingy mom and always wanted to be close to her puppies. Meanwhile, the rest of the team returned for the other two dogs, and they successfully got both of them. The Pit Bull was named Juniper, while the Rottweiler was named Bear.
The dogs were scanned for microchips; Juniper, who was nervous, did not have a chip, while Bear had one, but the owner did not want him anymore. The rescue promised to find him a new home with someone who would love him. Bear is a playful dog. Despite his size, he acts like he is a small lap dog.
After a few weeks, the rescue team visited Amazon and her puppies. The SoCal Labrador Retriever Rescue has found a forever home for Amazon and her beautiful babies. Meanwhile, an animal shelter called The Little Red Dog fosters Juniper and has seen a home for Bear.
