Police dogs are essential in law enforcement and serve as partners to their human counterparts. The police officers consider them one of the boys. They go home with their handlers and are considered part of the family.
Deebo is famous for tackling criminals. He also protects police officers. Dogs receive proper training before being assigned to the field.
Deebo, the brave police dog
Deebo, a German Police Dog assigned to the Saginaw Police Department, is a 5-year-old K-9 dog from Northern Michigan. He trained with Scott Laroe of the Magnum K-9 in Quincy. Like any other dog, he specializes in criminal apprehension, tracking down narcotics, and protecting his handler.
Deebo joined the Saginaw Police Department in 2016. He replaced Kilo, also a K-9 police dog who retired in 2017.
Deebo, together with the police officers, responded to a hostage-taking crisis at Block 600 Sheridan Avenue, Saginaw, Michigan. The situation involved a 48-year-old man who held his housemate hostage.
According to Bob Ruth, Saginaw Chief Police Officer, a home fraud escalated to a hostage-taking crisis. The hostage-taker wounded Deebo in the head with a knife. The officers shot the man down and saved the hostage.
Deebo receives treatment at a local veterinarian hospital. Deebo’s situation terrifies the entire department, and they ask everyone to pray for him.
Saginaw Police Canine Association raised funds through donations from different individuals. The organization produced $13,000 to purchase Deebo from Northern Michigan K-9 out of Clare. He trained with Scott Laroe. Deebo has worked with the Saginaw Police Department for four years already.
Deebo’s task is to go to local schools for demonstrations and explain police officers’ jobs to children. The community loves Deebo so much that they, too, worry about his health.
