This German Shepherd Who Has Dwarfism Is Not Letting His Size Become A Barrier To Live His Life Well

This German Shepherd Who Has Dwarfism Is Not Letting His Size Become A Barrier To Live His Life Well

A German Shepherd named Ranger was comparatively smaller than his siblings when he was born. He was the last of his litter and he was just so tiny. Nevertheless, the size discrepancy with other dogs never bothered him and he was always very confident of himself. He would still run with the whole pack without fear of getting run over.

But after some time, his owners Shelby and Darcy started to notice that Ranger was not like other normal German Shepherd. For one, he had a really fluffy fur that some people actually mistake him for a Pomeranian. And when they tell people that he was an actually a German Shepherd, no one would believe them.

As for his size, Shelby and Darcy just chalked it up that he was a runt and that he would grow later. But he actually never did grow.

When they got Ranger home, they noticed that he had parasites and they thought that those were what caused his stunted growth. So, they took him to the vet and consulted with specialists. After looking at Ranger, one of the vet specialists told them that there was a good chance that he is a dwarf. At first, it was really scary because there were only one or two articles that they found about it online.

Ranger’s condition is not only in his size but also in his fur. Ranger took a long time before he shed the coat he had on as a puppy and it also took a lot of time for it to grow back. When Shelby and Darcy talked about it with other people on Instagram, one pointed out that it may be a thyroid problem which was a common symptom of dwarfism. So, they had him tested and put him under medication.

Ranger had always been a very happy, upbeat dog and no one would ever think that he could be sick. But slowly he recovered and his fur moms were just so happy that he was back to being healthy.

Ranger still grew, but only by a bit, and was about the size of a housecat but he’s kept his upbeat, energetic with him. He’s also very vocal with what he wants and vaguely seems to know how to get his way at all times. It doesn’t matter that he’s small because he’ll stay in charge of the larger-than-normal world that’s in front of him.
