When Miranda Peterson first brought home Lucy, she and her family were confused why her five-year-old son didn’t like the pit bull. He would always avoid interacting with her and get upset whenever she invaded his personal space. It was only a few months after they adopted the pup that they learned about the boy’s autism spectrum disorder.
Lucy seemed to understand her human brother’s condition and gave him all the space he needed. Eventually, though, she found the perfect activity that allowed her to bond with the kid.
Several months ago, Miranda’s husband went to take their son out on a stroll around their neighborhood. He brought Lucy along, too, and fortunately, the boy didn’t seem to mind. Seeing his changing response to the pup, the dad decided to make the stroll a part of their afternoon routine.
Every day since then, he would take the pit bull and their son on their afternoon walk. This gave the boy enough time to get used to Lucy, and before Miranda knew it, the pit bull and her human brother were getting along really well. In fact, the pup had gotten so close to the kid that she would get sad whenever he had to go to school.
During these school days, Lucy would make sure that he got to the bus safely. She would then patiently for him to come home, occasionally looking out the window to see if the school bus arrived yet. Once it did, she would immediately alert Miranda and start whining to let her go outside.
The fur mom would happily oblige, of course, and watch as Lucy rush to her brother’s side. This scene never failed to make her smile, but what melted her heart more was that the pup would excitedly greet the bus driver, too. It was as if she was thanking him for taking good care of her brother.
This adorable moment eventually became a routine for the Petersons, and Lucy would not change it for the world. Watch that heartwarming scene here.
